The proprietor of the Berj Art Gallery in Accra spoke with Nana Yaa Mensah on Asaase Radio’s Sunday Night show

Joyce Quarshie, the owner and founder of the Berj Art Gallery in
Accra, has urged Ghanaians to value and invest in the art industry to grow the economy.

However, she acknowledges that many more Ghanaians are entering art and the art business – a sharp departure from the situation some years ago.

"Anything to do with arts, I encourage, because we have to get to understand the value of all these things in Ghana and encourage people to get in more,”
Quarshie said.

The more curators we have, the more the art industry becomes known.”

Quarshie was speaking with Nana Yaa Mensah on Sunday Night on Asaase Radio.

Unconventional market

“Fortunately, now a lot of Ghanaians are getting into it and I like to encourage them,” she said. “When I see a Ghanaian come [to the gallery] to buy a piece of art, I get excited …

“Selling art is not like selling in the market. Art is a peculiar thing.”
