The Secondhand Solidarity Fund (SSF) supports the people on the frontlines in Kantamanto who are addressing the fashion industry’s waste crisis. While we work with community members to envision and develop an environmentally + socially just future, this fund is focused on immediate relief and action. Through this fund we distribute micro grants to individuals and to market associations for purposes such as debt relief when retailers purchase a bad bale, technology upgrades such as a new sewing machine and mini-upfit projects such as new roofing & flooring to mitigate flood risk or new electric wiring to limit fire outbreaks.
You can support the Secondhand Solidarity Fund at any time by donating directly but we are excited to announce that you can now also contribute to this fund by purchasing limited edition prints of 'Obroni Woewu Artchive’; an art piece by artist Whitney Chinonye Ernest [WCE].
‘Obroni Woewu Artchive’ (2024) captures the diversity and vibrance of Ghana's secondhand clothing industry, with a focus on Kantamanto (the world’s largest secondhand market). Only 50 prints are avaialble.
