What is Galamsey?
"Galamsey" refers to illegal mining, particularly for gold, in West Africa, notably Ghana. It involves unauthorized excavation without proper permits, often causing environmental harm and safety risks. Governments and environmental organizations in affected regions are taking action by enforcing stricter regulations, conducting enforcement operations, and promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices to protect both the environment and the livelihoods of local communities.
