Born in the historic city of Cape Coast in 1945, Ato Delaquis stands as one of Ghana’s preeminent artists, a luminary of the Ghanaian Renaissance. His oeuvre encompasses a diverse range, from iconic equestrian portraits to evocative landscapes and abstract creations. With a prolific talent in draughtsmanship, Delaquis has wielded various media, including prints, watercolors, and etchings, showcasing his extraordinary versatility.
A Journey of Artistic Mastery
Delaquis' artistic odyssey began with formal training at the Ecole ABC de Paris, culminating in a Certificat de fin d’Etudes in 1964. He further honed his craft, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana in 1971. This insatiable quest for excellence led him to complete his Masters in Fine Art at the esteemed Tyler School of Art, Temple University, U.S.A. in 1975.

Delaquis' contributions to the realm of art have been widely recognized. He garnered the prestigious Bronze Medal at the International Graphic Art Exhibition in Leipzig, Warsaw (1966), an accolade that heralded his emerging prominence. His impact resonated on a national scale, earning him the National Art Exhibitions Award in Ghana in both 1968 and 1970. In 1988, the Entertainment Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ECRAG) honored him for his profound influence on African Culture through Painting.
